After graduating from paramedic school in 1984, Gerald joined American Medical Response as an Emergency Paramedic. Instead, he continued to share his extensive knowledge by joining the Foresthill Fire Protection District. There, he mentored younger firefighters and advised on strategic operations, ensuring the maintenance of high service standards. Gerald’s career extended beyond the fire department to other public service roles. He worked as an EMT with Pomeroy Ambulance Services and as a medic at the Concord Pavilion, providing critical care at significant public events for over a decade. His expertise was also crucial as a communications specialist for the Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 4, where he coordinated response to national disaster sites. Additionally, Gerald served as Division/Group Supervisor on a Type 3 Incident Management Team. He managed responses to significant national emergencies, including hurricanes and wildfires in this role. His leadership was particularly critical during the 1989 Oakland Firestorm and the 1991 Loma Prieta Earthquake, demonstrating his capability to manage complex situations and make decisive, lifesaving decisions under pressure. Gerald is an avid adventurer and fitness enthusiast outside of his professional life. He regularly enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and skiing, which keep him physically fit and mentally sharp. He also competes in off-road motorcycle racing, challenging himself in events like the Virginia City Grand Prix, which test his endurance and competitive spirit.
